When I am old, I shall wear purple

I shall wear purple
I had this fabulous skein of Posh Yarn, 100% alpaca,in purple, just waiting for the right project.

And then I thought -
I need a neck warmer to wear at Red Hatting events.
So I set to and clickety clacked my favourite scarf pattern until it had the pre-requisite number of repeats completed. Then I cast off and, would you believe, it was time to go to lunch wearing the Red Hat.

The scarf needs a gentle blocking but I'm really pleased with how well it goes with the outfit I chose for yesterday.

Quote for the Day
Seeing, contrary to popular wisdom, isn't believing. It's where belief stops, because it isn't needed any more. Terry Pratchett

Wow .. who would have thought that after all those years in blue, how absolutely fabulous you look in red .. now I'll have to send you some red lippy to complete the look!!!

what a fun hat! and a lovely scarf!

I love that hat and the scarf was a pleasure to work. It's the first one in alpaca.

I've always been able to wear red, just never have the nerve to do so regularly in public. Lip balm in a strawberry red would be most welcome for the cold winter winds.

You make me eager to be of age for this :D

Why wait? You can join your local 'chapter' as a Junior and wear pink and lilac until you're 50.

That's lovely! And the colour looks quite elegant with your wonderful hat.

I shall have to queue that pattern. How simple and pretty!

I cast on fewer stitches for a narrower, longer, scarf. It's so fast to do. 13 repeats of 22 rows. It's even prettier when blocked.

I am always amazed at the beautiful patterns you can effortless make. Alas, I am just adding a simple ribbing to my repertoire.

Perfect matching for that gorgeous hat!

I can't even rib properly. Simple lace is surprisingly easy, just k2tog and YO. This would be a good pattern to try out!

I prefer the lace of this pattern to rib every time. It's so tedius having to change from K to P all across a row. This pattern is so adaptable. I've made a wider, longer one on larger needles using two different sorts of 4ply yarn in complementary colours.

Wot Owldaughter said. Are you on Ravelry? This pattern is free there and ever so simple.

Mind you, I don't have two little monkeys interrupting concentration when I do the YO rows.

Gorgeous, and it matches the purple feathery bits on your hat perfectly. Hope you had an enjoyable lunch.

I only just noticed that.

Lunch was great fun, as usual, and also delicious tomato and basil soup and warm ciabbata.

I have an unopened envelope that came while I was out, thank you. Going to save it until MWNN flies out on Sunday then indulge myself.

That's marvelous!! Although, of course, I see no reason to wait to wear purple (or put it in your hair). :-)

Thank you. I've been wearing purple since forever. It's one of my favourite colours, especially blue purple. It's red on the head that's new to me. Our chapter of the Red Hats is called My Fair Ladies and I felt very Eliza Doolittle-ish in my outfit.

very pretty!

I love the hat - it's a great shape for you - very flattering! :)

Thank you. I love my hat. I've always felt hats didn't suit me - and then I discovered the wide brim. There's no holding me now, I have 3 red ones and a purple one and feel very Eliza Doolittle-ish when I put one on.
