Quote for the Day
Words are the litmus paper of the minds. If you find yourself in the power of someone who will use the word "commence" in cold blood, go somewhere else very quickly. But if they say "Enter", don't stop to pack. Terry Pratchett, Small Gods.

Nice. I don't think Vetinari has been in a Discworld film yet, has he?

Have you read the latest? Really funny - TP may have needed a typist but his thinking head still works magnificently.

Yes, Vetinari was in The Colour of Magic. Jeremy Irons did a really good job. I'm not so sure about Charles Dance being the right 'body type'.

I haven't read Unseen Academicals (Pratchett used voice-recognition software in the final stages of writing). I have it on my Wish List, firmly marked as 'suitable for a birthday present'. Ah well, there's always Christmas and I did get two rather expensive gifts last week.

Looks good. Especially now I have caught up with the Discworld thanks to the audiobook!

thanks to the audiobook
Have you enjoyed them? Which narrator? Stephen Briggs does the only unabridged versions as far as I'm aware.

Any chance of including Discworld on the Midimeet list of fandoms? Fancy writing a Granny Weatherwax/Buffy crossover?

Yeah, I did enjoy them. I used to use Wintersmith to keep the cat company while I was at work.Stephen Briggs is by far the superior narrator imo.

I'm all for the Discworld as a fandom. I can't see me writing the crossover though.

What? You mean that they are finally going to make a Discworld film with out David Jason in it? I thought it was some sort of legal requirement, the way he turns up, miscast, at regular intervals...

The first casting was fine (Hogfather) and did much for viewer ratings among the non-Discworld folk. Miscasting as Rincewind upset a lot of long-time readers but I doubt the general public wouldn't have noticed. I think it's a sign of Terry's growing popularity that The Mob have been able to cast such 'big' names for Going Postal.

I'm patiently waiting to see what can be done with one of the 'Witches' novels. I can think of a few British actresses who would be perfect for the parts of Granny and Nanny.
