Water flowing underground
same as it ever was
Growing older doesn't mean growing boring.

red hatting
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away! Author unknown

As my 60th birthday draws ever closer, I'm definitely embracing the sentiments expressed in

Red hatters unite in the words of Jenny Jospeh

When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple
with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.

I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
and pick the flowers in other people's gardens
and learn to spit.

But now we must pay our rent

and not swear in the street
and set a good example for the children.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

An extract from a poem written by - Jenny Joseph

I welcome the Red Hat adventures that await me and I believe that fun and friendship are essential in life!

I love that poem

I remember reading the full poem years ago and being impressed. I had no idea it had sparked a movement (in the USA) nor that there was a local group.

I need to be a member! A younger friend I was out with this weekend was shocked when I said, "I really must find a new hobby. I think I fancy learning to ride a horse properly!"

I mean, it's not sky-diving, is it?

Click on the British Red Hatters' logo and find your local 'chapter'.

If you mean horse riding - no (but horse riding is on of the more dangerous activities. Don't let them seduce you with those big eyes and velvet ears, horsies are dangerous brutes)

I'm sure there are Red Hatters who do sky diving but it's up to the group members to decided what they do.

I know the poem (and it's one of my mum's favourites) but had no idea there was a fellowship of Red Hatters.

Hope you've got your red hat and purple dress ready to go.

I have another month in in which I can wear pink hat and lilac dress. Problem is, pink is baninated from my wardrobe/house/life.

Is your Mum a red-hat sort of person?

I don't know - though if there was a chapter near her in Wales I'd suggest she look them up, she's always bemoaning the fact that she never has anyone to do anything with. She goes off on trips and holidays by herself though, and if she lived nearer to me we'd go line dancing together (she'd love to try that but doesn't want to go on her own and it's not something my sister wants to do).

There's no group in Wales on the list. She could always start on. She'd be 'Queen' of the group but would carry no responsibility for organising anything. British HQ can be contacted through the logo for help and support with setting up a new 'Chapter'.

Line dancing sounds perfect for a Red Hat group.
