wild flowers
how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Elizaveth Barret Browning

For various reasons, I was unable to attend the Hitchin Lavender Fair with members of Hitchin Stitchin. I had a few lavender bags knitted and ready to fill but events interfered and the bags were forgotten in the scramble to get MWNN home from the middle of nowhere to his mother's funeral.

I was very pleased, therefore, to come across an article in the Mail about the local farm.

Isn't the sky magnificent? We get BIG skies here and the storm brewing above the field is a thing of beauty.

The farm has some plants still flowering (must be the same variety as mine - deep, deep blue) so the shop is open to visitors. Want a lavender-filled hand-knitted pot-pouri bag?

Lovely! There was an aricle in The NY Times about a Lavender Festival in Sonoma, California.

No mention of England, I suppose no-one expects the climate to support such a sun-seeking plant. But then the micro-climate in Hitchin isn't exactly typical for England.

Wow. To think we came all these miles for lavender fields! (Mind you, we also have the sunshine, wine, castles and ruins etc...)

We have all that in Hitchin - apart from the wine. Give us time and I'm sure we can manage that too :)

OH WOW. Stunning!

I'm still using the lavender oil!!!

AND I have a half-bar of the soap in the freezer. I AM VERY FRUGAL WITH IT. When I *need* it, it's there :D

It is. I have some of my own that aren't as good because of the lack of storm clouds.
