Cruisin Log 2009 Revisited.
27th-Jul-2009 09:06 am
With no internet access this year thanks to a laptop that is refusing to send emails, I kept a minimal log on Facebook via Twitter.

Day 1 - 20 May

Ronnie's introduction to life afloat did not get off to a good start. He was attacked and bitten by the large mastiff/GSD that lives aboard the resident peniche in the marina.

Taken 2 days' after the attack, following the visit to the vet in town.

Taken 10 days later, cruising the St Quentin-Compiegne ring with Linda and Eric.

Taken by Linda

Despite the shaky start, Ron soon settled into boating life and enjoyed the 24/24, 7/7 contact he had with me and MWNN

Ouch! That's a pretty good bite. But he does seem to have settled in nicely.

That pic was taken a few days after the trip to the vet's. When it happened, there was a huge 'hole' in his head, surrounded by lesser gashes.

He's a very happy little dog again.

Aww. Poor Ron!
29th-Jul-2009 04:13 pm (UTC)
He's better now, having discovered the joys of swimming and chasing moorhens.
27th-Jul-2009 12:15 pm (UTC)
Oh poor Ronnie! I'm glad he settled well to being a ship's dog.

His crew medal is on its way from the engraver's website.

Oh poor bebe Ronnie! How awful.
Was the mastiff/GSD investigated as a dangerous dog? Or are there no such laws against attack dogs?

Don't know what a 'resident peniche' is? Or Not clear what my image of a barge is doing there? :-(

Everyone in the Port de Plaisance sympathised with us with a shrug about the 'chien mechant' from the peniche but nothing has been done. MWNN was going to give the owner the vet's bill (80euros) but his mother's death put that out of his mind.

A peniche is a 39m barge used for carrying cargo.

The one in the Port de Plaisance has, like the one in the picture, been converted into a houseboat. It is moored near the land entrance gates and has an ever-changing list of residents. The dog is the 'guard dog' which is allowed wander the Port de Plaisance - but less so since the attack on Ron.

I have just ordered Ron a new dog tag that says 'Boat Dog First Class'.

Oh, poor sweetie!! He continues to be as darling as ever.

He really is a star. He's getting his 'boat crew' medal very soon.

Oh dear. Poor Ronnie. That could have been disastrous. I'm glad he came out of it with only some manly scars to show for it.

We got to Ron just in time. The attack dog is very cowardly and backed off as soon as two humans intervened. Thank goodness for teatree cream.

His 'manly' scars don't show much at all now, just thin silver streaks among the black hair.

Oh poor Ronneie!
29th-Jul-2009 04:11 pm (UTC)
He's all better now.

29th-Jul-2009 04:11 pm (UTC)
