Water flowing underground
same as it ever was

There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.

We visited Woodbridge in glorious sunshine last Tuesday and found it very much the same - apart from a new (to us) cafe beside the Tide Mill.

There, we enjoyed our first lunch in the UK that welcomed the dog. The sign on the door reads "dogs and well-behaved children welcome". Quite a few villages warned us of dangerous children as we crossed their boundaries.

After a lunch of game casserole and apple crumble and ice cream for me and fresh plaice followed by bread and butter pudding for MWNN and Ron, we walked some of the calories off
along the river footpath.

My thoughts are with friends in Australia who may be affected by the horrendous fires.

Thankfully we live on the other side of Melbourne so are not in any danger although I know the affected area very well having grown up near Kilmore. We are all in shock at the severity of the fires and loss of life and property. Small towns have just been wiped off the map .. nothing left. It appears that some of the fires have been the work of arsonists and the police have cordoned off much of the area as a crime scene. It beggars belief how anyone in their right mind can do such a dreadful thing. It makes you sick to your stomach. No punishment seems harsh enough for the culprits. The weather has been unbelievable .. over 46 on Saturday and then today it's so cool that I've got long pants and a woolly shirt on.

So glad you're both safe and that the cooler weather is helping. I can't imagine what it's been like by those affected by the fires.

The signs say 'danger, children' but so many public places welcomed 'well behaved chidren' I begin to hope that public opinion on lax child rearing has finally turned. How many of the fire raisers had deficient upbringing, one wonders?

The fires are terrible. At least it's started to rain a bit now.

The hot weather has returned, so no respite yet.

Ducks! Pretending to be seagulls! LOL!

Very pretty and the weather looked cold but sunny which is always a nice combination IMO :)

It's the best combination. At least you can put on more layers when it's cold. There's a limit to how much you can take off when it's hot - and even then, it's often not enough ;)

I want game casserole and apple crumble with ice-cream - NOW!

There was wonderful crusty bread with the casserole, which was FULL of game. And the crumble had a caramilised top.

And would you believe it, in complete contrast to Victoria, Queensland has had so much rain that nearly 60% of the state is under flood. It's mad, isn't it!!!!
