Water flowing underground
same as it ever was
Quote for the Day

I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it." Terry Pratchett.

This quote seems very apt given the nation's reaction to the snowfalls of the past 5 days. We're back from our week's holiday in time to watch England play Italy (Rugby) and it seems we've been in a different country instead of a neighbouring county. We had snow on Monday but the rest of the week was fine.

Picspam will follow of our trips into Ispwich, Woodbridge, and the Deben Estuary. Before then, I have a lot of catching up to do.

Here in Hertfordshire (North), we've had snow on the ground for a week now. A colleague actually got to within a mile of our office yesterday before giving up and going home.

We watched it on the News but it didn't compute with what we were seeing on the outskirts of Ipswich.

There seems to have been a weather edge running very approximately along the A505. That colleague coming in from Linton (south) had no problem for the first part of the journey. Then, on Royston's outskirrts, he encountered a skating runk with cars sitting up on the verges, and a somewhat sarcastic police officer.

Another colleague offered to give me a lift home - because he has a 4x4 and I don't. I pointed out that it wasn't necessary, since the snow in town was less than on the mile north to his place.

It's been a very difficult week.

So I am learning. Did you manage to get into work?

Some days. I only have a five minute drive, but it was impassable on Friday.

Welcome back! Sounds like you missed the worst of it! How was the journey?

Blinking freezing and still covered in snow here....

We thought of you as we watched the weather forecast on Sunday afternoon. You seem to have had the worst of the initial onslaught,

The journey home was great until MWNN ignored the turning off the A14 for the A11 and we queued for 35 minutes on the outskirts of Cambridge to get past the entrance to Waitrose. The only place we encountered deep snow was the entrance to the drive at home.
