I'm officially pissed off

pissed off
The bastards pulled the plug. On the stroke of midnight, Sky One went off air on the newly formed Virgin Media Cable service without a written word of warning. No more Bones. No more Dresden Files. No more Lost!

Bugger! Bugger! and thrice Bugger!

This is why I try not to become too attached to any TV show. We are at the mercy of whim and ratings.

Perhaps it is better to have loved and lost, but you can only take it so many times before your heart breaks for ever.

I have to admit, I never invested any of these shows with the same passion as BtVS and Angel. So there is no broken heart - just much anger at being treated as a pawn in the pissing context between Branson and Murdock.

Gaaaaah! And I thought I had good reason to be ticked off because my tv-watching is about to be seriously interrupted by basketball!

But to lose Sky One and all those shows is just horrible. I feel for ya, sweetie, I really do. *sigh*

Honestly, sometimes I just think it's a good idea to read more. ;)

I already read more. I'm an avid reader - if I do any more, I'll go blind ;).

To date this year
One Anthony Trolloppe - An Old Man's Love
One Maeve Binchy - Whitethorn Woods
One Emma Donoghue - Life Mask
3/4 Elizabeth Chandwick - The Greatest Knight.

Well they said they were going to do it!

I'd ring up and demand a reduction in your rental. I've heard online that some folks have done that and got a reduction.

That sounds like wishful thinking to me, Sue. I'm still seething at the way we've been treated. To rub salt in the wound, I searched Virgin's website for any mention of 'Lost'. It's showing on RTE1 and RTE 2 - which isn't on the listings for my region. If you check your digibox, they should be around number 845. Bones I can't find any mention of, nor Dresden.

My friend signed up only a couple of months ago and she's foaming about it. Knobs.

I feel your pain! When my combination cable TV/Internet access became outrageously expensive (over $100/month - and that didn't include any premium cable channels like HBO or Showtime or Sundance) I dropped it and went looking for more reasonable alternatives. I since found Verizon Internet at an affordable price, but haven't yet found a TV alternative.

makd turned me on to a way to see Bones - the episodes are broadcast here: http://www.myspace.com/2100102, so hopefully you can keep up with Bones. A friend of mine is taping Dresden Files and sending them to me, but I gave up on Lost last year when I missed too much and got totally confused.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it's not available to those of us living outside the US - but there are ways and means of getting the downloads. that's a great Bones icon you have there.

We spend so much time out of the UK when Series are coming to the end of a season that I always resort to buying the DVDs and watching before the new season starts, especially with Lost. A friend has offered to tape Lost for me but so far, no sign of Dresden. I got confused last year too.

I was going to reply directly to hesadevil but noticed your response, and thought you might be interested as well. Bones isn't the only TV show you can see online. Here are just a few:

Full episodes of Lost can be found here:
http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing

Full episodes of Heroes can be found here:
http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/

Full episodes of Bones can be found here:
http://www.myspace.com/bonesonfox

Full episodes of Dresden Files (not sure you can find all of them though) can be found here:
http://www.scifi.com/dresden/index.html

With some of these you have the option of downloading them for Itunes, but I think there is a charge for that.

Thanks for these, S. Unfortunately, Bones and Lost are available only in the US. Heroes I can watch on Sci Fi channel. I got really excited at the Dresden link but it will show only the introductory 'back to the future type advert' and not the episodes for some reason.

Well, poo. Probably some kind of contract with your broadcasting system. Were you able to load Harry down to your ipod?

I have a first generation I-Pod that doesn't do video. MWNN tried to buy me a case for it for our anniversary and the sales staff were all too young to remember it.

I've already been sent episodes 8 - 14 of Bones and will do my usual 'wait for the DVDs' for 'Lost'.

I have Part 2 of Chapter 18 almost ready to send to you - just tightening up the fight scene. Will you be able to get to it over the weekend?
2nd-Mar-2007 01:51 pm (UTC)
I think so. Go ahead and sent it on over!
1st-Mar-2007 02:07 am (UTC)
Bones gone *sniff* that's one of the only shows I watch. They took Skyone from me too.
1st-Mar-2007 02:15 am (UTC)
I found some of the latest episodes on youtube click here:
http://youtube.com/profile_videos?user=courtneymudie7&page=2

(Aliens in a Space Ship is on there, which is the episode that's on tomorrow.)
1st-Mar-2007 06:20 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much for this. I'm book marking and will come back to watch at the usual viewing time tonight.
1st-Mar-2007 06:34 pm (UTC)
YAY! Aliens in a Spaceship is my favorite eppy I've seen so far this year. Loved it. Unlike Truth in the Lye, which if I never see again will be too soon. When Cam came, she brought the ick factor with her. I didn't mind the bones, but the CSI stuff they're showing this year is pretty gross. Geez, I miss Dr. Goodman!
1st-Mar-2007 06:25 am (UTC)
I'm angry about it too - I particularly didn't like the idea that if we kept them we (the customer) would be paying the extra that Sky was charging though....

You know, considering I pay £109 a month to them, they haven't particularly impressed me.

Anyway Bones is okay, I can send you it - email me with the ep you were up to and yer address :)
1st-Mar-2007 06:22 pm (UTC)
Thanks so much. I may watch on U-tube tonight but look forward to viewing later in a larger format.

Bastards is the word. They've got a month to sort it out before we pull the plug completely and get a Freeview box!
1st-Mar-2007 06:17 pm (UTC)
I have to admit, I never invested any of these shows with the same passion as BtVS and Angel. I'm still seething at being treated as a pawn in the pissing contest between Branson and Murdock.

We have 'Freesat' on the SKy digibox in the bedroom and have no intention of subscribing again but are reluctant to go the same route with Virgin/NTL because we sometimes watch a pay per view film or UK Gold or one of the documentary channels. I'm also watching Lilies on the 'on demand' channel.
1st-Mar-2007 01:22 pm (UTC)
I can see the whole thing losing the both customers - some people will doubtless give in and go to Sky, but I can see others being so annoyed at Sky's behaviour that they choose not to do this even if they had been considering it.

We have 'Freesat' on the Sky digibox in the bedroom and have no intention of subscribing again. We subscribed for the minimum in order to get the digibox which we were planning to take to the boat so that MWNN could watch the rugby.
