A dragon is for life, not just for Hogwatch, but a digibox has a use-by date

knitting sketch

Mine arrived earlier in the week and there was much squeeing to be heard Chez Hesadevil. Pay no attention to the silly cow who was disappointed that it wasn't illustrated with cartoons but - shock! horror! stills from the film that airs on Sky1 in December. The only disappointment I felt was with the picture of the hogs and the lack of a picture of Tony Robinson.

Cast List (as it appears on Title page)
Albert - Sir David Jason
Mustrum Ridicully - Joss Ackland
Teatime (pronounced Teah tim eh, if you know what's good for you) - Marc Warren.
Lord Downey - David Warner
Susan - Michelle Dockerty
Mr Sidney - Nigel Planer
Vernon Crumley - Tony Robinson
Bilious - Rhodri Meilir
Medium Dave - Peter Guiness
The Raven - Neil Pearson
Violet - Sinead Matthews
Banjo - Stephen Marcus

Anyone else see a resemblence between Marc Warren

no pic available of him as Teatime on the web yet) and a young Malcolm McDowal
(in Clockwork Orange)?

And look what is listed at Amazon. Terry said they'd have it before it aired on TV. Release date is next March.

On other, (but related) news - NTL finally got round to fixing our cable TV service. It died on Thursday 12th at 6pm. The help line the following day listed our postcode as one of the areas that had a fault. When I returned from the Minimeet on Sunday, we were still without a signal. Monday's fault list didn't contain our area.

I then went through the torture checking proceedure with the customer serice woman (who was somewhere in India, with an accent so thick even MWNN couldn't understand 8 words in 10). She finaly agreed to 'send an engineer'.

Thursday afternoon, the engineer turned up, checked the signal, and pronounced it strong as an ox - the fault lay with the digibox. I gently reminded him (yes I can do gentle) that we had an engineer out in April for exactly the same fault but by the time he arrived the box had cured itself. I asked for a replacement box then and was told 'they're very difficult to get hold of, missus' (the lying bastard). This new engineer 'just happened to have brought a new box with him'. So we now have a new, smaller, neater, but more powerful digibox.

Just as well, the thought of switching to Sky with all that entails for us (new holes in walls, re-routing the cable downstairs and a new TV to replace the one that we salvaged from the Ark) was not top of our 'to do list'.

It makes me so cross when ntl say they can't replace your digibox! Of course they can - for goodness sake they're giving them away to new customers!!!!

We've just bought a new HD ready TV, and I'm impatient to find out when we'll be able to get an HD broadcast via the cable (which will no doubt entail a new digibox too!).

It's not just the digibox that makes me cross. We have the telephone and broadband with them, so I asked could we switch to the 'faster' broadband for the special price they were offering on the latest spam leaflet they sent.

No, that's for new customers.

Trouble is, I don't want to lose my email addresses, or the webspace. And we can't go to another cable provider to become a new customer for the internet/phone/TV package because there isn't one.

What happened to the Monopoly body that is supposed to stop this kind of thing.

Well you know what you do for this? Ring up customer services and say you are considering changing to Sky, and what can Ntl do for you, especially as you'd like faster broadband. It might take a couple of calls (different customer services people) but I can guarantee they will upgrade you because that's what they did for us! We're on 1Mb now. We managed this for the digital TV package as well and got the family pack stations for a reduced price for a year.

That's for new customers

It shows how effective some advertising is that I found myself thinking 'Pity Nationwide don't do cable/broadband....'

Followed by 'If they did it would probably be the best cable/broadband in the world....'

I could cry when I see the difference between what existing customers are being screwed paying and the 'special deals' that keep popping through my letter box.
21st-Oct-2006 05:15 pm (UTC)
NTL always say they can't replace the box but when we got burgled they charged us nearly £500 and replaced it in under an hour. Funny that. This was four years ago, goodness knows what they charge now.

The customer service sucks but there just isn't a decent alternative here. ::kicks them::

It's not surprising the customer service sucks when the helpline people are in India, the engineers in Luton, and the ebill facility no longer exists for my region now that the merger with Telewest has happened. I can't even find out what level of broadband I have (I'm assuming it's 1 meg) because the telephone billing no longer operates 24 hours a day.

There'd better be a refund for the days we were without cable.

Thankfully we've rarely need customer service from them, but the few times we have it's been an unpleasant process. I really dislike relying on one company...

Did you order a calendar? I'd never have known!

NTL gave a box as soon as I needed one.

NTL gave a box as soon as I needed one.
Was that because it was evident that the old one was dead? How long was it before an engineer came out?
21st-Oct-2006 09:44 pm (UTC)
I can't remember. It might have been the time it took a week and the engineer 'forgot' to come, having to schedule it for the next week.

That looks like a great cast list!

And sorry that you are having to suffer the crap that is NTL. They bought our cable system which used to BT and it has gone downhill ever since.

It does, doesn't it. I can't wait for it to air, and I'm dying to see what The Mob comes up with for the 12 Days of Hogwatch. Have you read it? If not, I've a spare copy you could have.

BtW, are you interested in getting involved with writerconuk? We've formed a working party and are hoping to have a small event in the Midlands next August.
