Water flowing underground
same as it ever was
We're abandoning any further trips to the big tourist spots.

It's just not worth being fleeced on every street corner, walking the feet of us in 27 degrees of heat for hours, having to buy something in a cafe every time we need a loo, just to 'see' the famous sights.

We're happy poddling to and fro our local towns, Incisa at 5km from the apartment, Figlines at 6km. We had lunch in a small cafe in Figlines half an hour ago, fresh pasta, fizzy water and coffee. TGhe town square may not be on the grand scale of Siena but the church is untouched, the frescos still visible and the paintings newly cleaned and restored. The internet and phone shop charges pennies for connections and will even let me upload pics from the camera. I must remember to pack the usb cable for the next time we visit.

We have left Loony GSD in the apartment today as we will not be away for more than three hours. Weather is hot but there are lots of shady piazzas where we can stroll and sit.

Deborahw67 reports that she has received the postcard I wrote. This is thanks to the Cafe owner in Arezzo. I left the cards on the table and he must have posted them that day. Bogwitch and Voodootx should also have received one of that batch. Would myfeetshowit please send me a snail mail address to my patvharris address so that I can send a card while we're still in Italy.

Wheeee, I got one this morning! Thank you :)

Avoiding touristy spots is the best way to see a country, I reckon. I'm a potterer, and you get some treasures that way :)

We bought a couple of pashminas as gifts at one of the local discount outlets yesterday so you are definitely right about that. I'm looking for some blue Italian glassware and we can pick up chunks of marble as we stroll along the forest tracks up the mountain behind the apartment.

Nothing as yet. :(

That's a rather alarming title btw!

Tourists traps are tourists traps no matter where you are. Poddling around and just enjoying life sounds the peach to me!
