Water flowing underground
same as it ever was
Finally taken the plunge

knitting sketch
and signed up for one of Helen Steven's Masterclasses (online). I've been keen to learn the techniques to create something like this

in stitch ever since I started designing my own stuff.

I missed the introductory classes this year but am contemplating taking the Intermediate Masterclass next spring. They take place in the Manor House Museum

Anyone know of a budget hotel near Bury St Edmund's.

Oh nice.

If these classes go well I wonder how long it'll be till we see a Spike one....

I daren't even contemplate that. I doubt MWNN would appreciate a wall hanging or cushion cover with Spike on it. I'm in enough trouble as it is for writing a sequel to Family.

arthritis - eek, painful. I'm sorry your stitching days are over. Don you ever have good days when the fingers commands without yelling back at you?

I hope to keep the use of my fingers for a few more years yet, but when if they give up the ghost after all the guitar-playing abuse I've subjected them to over the years, I might pick up the paintbrush again and have a go at creating images of flaura and fauna of the waterways that way.

Failing that, there's always the camera, though I have to admit my first love is the colour and textures of threads and textiles.

Will you be making a web?

possibly.

Want to try some flower seed heads first, after the Introductory poppies and morning glory.

Looks like a fun - and challenging - course. Go for it!

The pic you inserted is gorgeous!! That's truly masterwork...

I hope we'll get to see the work you do. This looks both challenging and relaxing--a rare combination.

I'm another with arthritis. I have it in my wrists and shoulders. I can do a little needle or beadwork but pay for it very quickly.

I'm lucky I can type as long as I support my wrists properly. I'm hoping it will stay that way.

I designed and worked this banner

last year for MWNN's birthday; his family crest + gold on gold motifs that are significant to us as a couple. It's time to move on to three dimensional stuff now.

I find it both relaxing and stimulating to work in silk. I love that it's a form of painting with threads.

Ooh, that is nice. How long before you'll be doing stuff like that?

I suspect it'll be late next year, after the Intermediate class. The Introductory class is this

which I intend to work on a black background.

Oh, that's gorgeous. I looked when you sent me the link and thought her work was wonderful. Makes my efforts at counted cross stitch look pretty dire *g*. You'll have to show us all what you learn to do.

It is lovely, isn't it? I was impressed by the inrotduction on Helen's website, where she talks about creating light and shade. She's very into Anglo Saxon embroidery.

I haven't heard from you in ages!

Email me if you can.
