Did I lend anyone Season 2 of House? It's marked as 'purchased' on my Amazon Wish List and I can't find it. Found it! It was on the 'wrong' shelf with its spine facing inwards so I couldn't read the title.

Does anyone (could be the same anyone who has my boxed-set) have suggestions as to how to keep a nine month old terrier occupied thoughout a week of enforced bed rest for lamness?

Oh, enforced bed rest! What a bummer!

As to the terrier, here in the states you can buy a dog toy that is a thin rod, with a rope and ball attached--they are fairly easy to make as well. You trail the ball around, and can snatch it away. If you can get him to realize you are whipping it from one side of the bed to the other, you can probably get him to tire himself out.

Another toy that keeps them interested is a ball with small holes. You put dog biscuits in, and eventually the dog can get them out, but it keeps them working at it for a while (though within 5 minutes, one of my mastiff smashed the thing into the wall, and proudly wolfed all down the biscuits. *sigh*)

He already has that one cracked.

His hide chew is keeping him busy at the moment, and he has a chicken that 'quacks' when he bites it , but he's really sulking at the change in his routine. Took him to puppy class where he could only watch and he got very twitchy about not being allowed to play with the other pups.

Ah. I also thought you were the one stuck in bed.

Poor Ronnie. He must be traumatized.

You're stuck in bed? Aaargh - poor you. Hmm. Tricky one. Pity MWNN can't get you an extra-large hamster wheel.

Hee! Not me, Ronnie.

Good lord. If anything that's worse - you can find lots to do - he won't even understand why he's stuck there. What are you using - staples and gaffer tape?

See my answer to Feetie, above.

It wouldn't be you who has my House, by any chance? Found it!

Glad you found it. I watch the odd episode, but I'm not such a fan I'd want a whole box set.

Bed rest for puppies!!

Eeek

I have no clue

Does he like videos?

He'll watch the TV if there are animals involved and he likes to watch the cursor on the monitor, but nothing is as good as a mad dash round the garden like a mad thing.

::sigh:: This bed rest is very tiring for the humans.

Wildlife DVDs seem to be the answer.

How on earth do you enforce bed rest for a puppy?
5th-Jul-2008 10:24 am (UTC)
With difficulty. I don't want to 'crate him' (that's his travelling cage that doubles as his nightime bed) all day. He'll not let us do that anyway, he has the most piercing yodeling howl that he can keep up for hours.

Oh, poor puppie!

When I had a dachshund who hurt its back and had to be confined for 6 MONTHS, we crated him. Not fun, but def. for his own good.

We had a similar problem with Loony GSD at a similar age. We didn't bed rest her enough and I suspect the arthritis was a direct result of that injury.

Ronnnie hates being crated during the day and howls and howls until he's released. MWNN is such a softie, he won't leave him howling for more than a few minutes - 'just in case he needs to go outside'.

The men are never the ones to be strong ;)

Whenever we get a new puppy, Scott always says, very seriously, "and we will crate train him/her." It never fails, he's the one who can't stand hearing the puppy cry!!

Why do we always have to play 'bad cop'? It's not fair.
